What is a Sound Healing?

Sound healing (also sometimes called "sound bath" or "sound therapy") has had ancient roots in cultures all over the world for thousands of years, with a myriad of benefits to restore the mind, body, and spirit to a state of balance, promoting healing and well-being.  Harmonic vibrations and frequencies from the healing instruments wash over the body and can be felt deeply on many levels.  Sound Healing is a profound and powerful experience of healing sound and vibration.

The vibrations help shift and release energy blockages in the body and stimulate healing on a cellular level. The sounds activate the parasympathetic nervous system, the body’s rest and restore response and the frequencies from the instruments stimulate the alpha and theta brain waves creating a therapeutic and restorative effect on the mind and body which activates the body's system of self-healing.

The Background of Sound Healing

For many thousands of years, ancient sages, masters and enlightened communities have known about and understood the significance and importance of sound as a sacred instrument of immense power and potential, not only for healing but also for spiritual development.

Ancient civilisations revered sound so deeply that they believed it called the universe into creation. These communities have been working in harmony with and incorporating sound into their rituals, ceremonies, meditations, celebrations, and healing philosophies as far back as the dawn of humanity.

Shamans, priests, priestesses, healers, masters and medicine men and women have worked with sound in sacred ways since ancient times and have created many sound instruments to assist them.

The variety of sound instruments or tools used by ancient civilisations is extensive. The emergence of sound as a holistic or complementary therapy highlights the importance of sound as a significant healing and transformational tool for the 21st century and beyond.

"A sound bath is like an energetic deep-tissue massage that leaves you feeling balanced and replenished."

How Sound Healing works

Sound healing allows you to completely immerse yourself in the experience of healing vibrations and sound waves from the ancient healing instruments wash over you, that is why it is called a 'Sound Bath'.  The sounds begin to provide a stable frequency for fluctuating brain waves to latch on to, in a process known as entrainment, and stimulate the alpha and theta brain wave frequencies. This gently allows your mind and body to enter a meditative state and speak directly to the cells in your body, which helps to promote healing. These states are considered the gateway to the subconscious realms where deep healing can take place.

What to expect from a Sound Healing session

Sound healing works on its own, but combining it with yoga, meditation, and breathwork, will help you go deeper into the inner journey. By preparing the body and mind, yoga and meditation open us to receiving sound healing and it becomes easier to surrender to the sound when we are already relaxed and focused inwards.

This therapeutic sound experience, will unblock and balance your energy system, and calm and regulate your nervous system, which will induce a state of deep relaxation and peace and take you into a total trance of tranquility. When the brain waves and body are synchronised, balance can be restored, and stress and anxiety can be released from the body and mind.

Which Sound Healing Instruments are played?

You’ll journey to a full spectrum of sound healing instruments: crystal bowls (432Hz & 528Hz attuned to the 7 primary chakras) gongs, shamanic drums, ocean drums, koshi chimes, wind chimes, and rattles.

The sound induces theta brain states to help you access a deep meditative state. Sound is a vibration that travels through air, water, and solids, and therefore the human body penetrates every cell, and every molecule in your body for deep healing.
